Violence

Violence is the act of aggression or abuse towards another person with the intent to harm. It is the leading cause of death worldwide for people 15-44 years old, and is one of the leading causes of death in the U.S. for ages 1-34 years old. In 2003, 17,732 people died as a result of homicide. Of those who died as a result of violence, there are many more that were left with physical scars and emotional scares. There are different types of violence including personal (suicide), interpersonal (homicide, rape, sexual assault, and IPV), and collective violence (war). All types of violence erodes communities by reducing productivity, decreasing property values, and disrupting social services. This section educates viewers on the different how to recognize the warning signs and risk factors of interpersonal violence and strategies to prevent such incidents
