OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center was the first trauma center designated in the city of Rockford in 1971, we have provided the Northern Illinois region with quality trauma care continually since that date. Additionally we were the first facility in Illinois to operate a air medical helicopter. Lifeline Helicopter was started in 1981 as the first hospital based helicopter in the state of Illinois and only the 13th air medical program helicopter in the United States. OSF SAMC also hold the distinction of being the 2nd Trauma center in the state of Illinois to obtain American College of Surgeons- Committee on Trauma, Trauma Center verification. OSF-SAMC is a magnet hospital and a verified stroke center.
