A Program of the ATS

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center

St. Joseph’s University Medical Center (SJUMC) is a New Jersey State level II designated and American College of Surgeons (ACS) verified Trauma Center providing care to pediatric and adult injured patients. Our Trauma Center serves the residents of Passaic County and all other surrounding communities. Multiple injured patients can be cared for simultaneously in our five state-of-the-art trauma bays and dedicated surgical critical care trauma unit. Patients are received by both ground and air ambulance. The Trauma team is available 24 hours a day seven days a week and is instantly prepared for all types of trauma.

The uniqueness of SJUMC is in collaborating and utilizing a multidisciplinary approach to the care of each trauma patient to maximize an optimal positive outcome. A participant in the National Trauma Data Registry, SJUMC contributes to the fund of knowledge which is readily assessable to trauma experts around the world. The trauma outreach program is instrumental in providing education to the surrounding communities in prevention and reduction of injury. Outreach team members extend injury prevention programs to schools, adult and child day care centers, local businesses, corporations and religious organizations.

Accreditation for our Trauma Services is provided by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This verifies and assures that each patient is provided the highest quality and standards in evidence-based care. The Trauma team consists of surgical and emergency department attending physicians, residents, fellows, advanced nurse practitioners, registered nurses and technicians all of whom are highly educated and certified professionals with vast experience in the care of the injured patient.

Critical trauma patients are immediately met by our team upon arriving at the Emergency Department. Trauma Transport systems includes the Emergency Medical System (EMS) which utilizes both ground ambulance and helicopter. Trauma patients are frequently referred to SJUMC from surrounding community non-trauma hospitals. The SJUMC transfer center assists transferring facilities by efficiently mobilizing vital resources requiring the safe and expedited transfer of injured patients.
