A Program of the ATS

Grand Strand Medical Center

We are proud to be recognized as an Adult Level I Trauma Center and a Pediatric Level II Trauma Center by South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC). As a state-recognized trauma center, we provide a high level of care to the most critically injured patients.

Level I Trauma Center

As a Level I Trauma Center, we provide comprehensive injury care, from stabilization to rehabilitation and prevention. This means we:

  •  Act as a referral resource for nearby communities
  •  Have 24/7 availability of specialists in surgery, emergency medicine, critical care, internal medicine, radiology and anesthesiology
  •  Have a minimum requirement for the number of trauma patients treated each year
  •  Provide substance abuse screening and patient intervention programs

In addition, we provide leadership in education prevention through community events, continued education for trauma team members, research projects and residency programs.

Experienced Trauma Team

Our 24/7 trauma center is fully staffed with board-certified trauma surgeons and a team of experienced professionals. When you come to our hospital, life-saving surgery is available within minutes of arrival.

We care for patients in three dedicated trauma bays in our Emergency Department. Our trauma team includes:

  •  Board-certified trauma surgeons
  •  Emergency medicine physicians
  •  Neurosurgeons
  •  Orthopedic surgeons
  •  Specially trained critical care and emergency nurses

The trauma care experts at Grand Strand Medical Center also work closely with emergency medical service providers to deliver coordinated, specialized treatment to patients who need Level I adult and Level II pediatric care.

Pediatric Level II Trauma Center

Our state-designated pediatric trauma center provides trauma services specifically designed for children. You can trust our emergency pediatric team to be there for you and your family. We also have a pediatric intensive care unite (PICU). If your child needs time to heal under the care of our experienced team.
