Medications

Some pain medications may be obtained over-the-counter (OTC), or without a prescription. OTC medications include aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. Most medications for the treatment of pain require a prescription. Even some OTC medications require a prescription if they are used in more powerful doses. Medications are regulated in different ways, depending on their category. Some may only be given in limited quantities and may require a new prescription for each refill.
