Aspiration

Aspiration is the inhalation of stomach contents into the lungs. This can happen at the time of injury if a patient vomits, is unconscious or during intubation (placement of a breathing tube). Some patients may not experience any symptoms at all, while others may experience complete pulmonary failure and/or cardiovascular collapse.
