Safe Storage and Use of Medications

If there are children in the home, take extra precaution in storing all household medicines in locked cabinets out of reach of children. Children often mistakenly think that medication may be food or candy, so extra precaution is recommended. Children learn through imitation, so when taking medications, be careful to not do it around children, such as at the dinner table. Always keep medications in their original containers. When using medicine, avoid leaving it accessible to children, even if you only to plan to be gone for a moment to answer a telephone call, etc. If leaving the child with a relative or caregiver, make sure that no purses are kept in reach of a child such as in a purse.
