PROOF THAT GOD IS ALWAYS BY OUR SIDE!!
On March 1,2008 we received a phone call that stopped our world for a while. Our son Jason was taking a leisurly ride on his four wheeler when he suddenly came in contact with a downed powerline. He had 7200 volts of electricity go through his body; it exited on the side of his foot and took off his thumb and one other finger and burned both hands beyond repair. He was lifeflighed from Kentucky to the Vanderbilt. All I could do on our drive to Nashville was pray to God to please not let Jason die, I will never forget how I felt when the doctor told us that he would have to amputate both hands and would try to keep as much of the arm as he could. He also said that Jason’s kidney’s were starting to shut down due to the toxins that was going through his body due to the electicity. The next 4 days meant more surgery to remove a little bit more of each arm due to the muscle and tissue dying. There are no words to describe the sadness and hurt my heart felt seeing my son lying there not yet knowing if he would live and how would he react to having lost both of his hands. My husband and I were at his beside when he looked down at his arms (not being able to talk due to having a respirator) he kept trying to say “Hands Hands”, with one small tear run down his face. We told him that it would be OK with the help of God we would make it through! I think he made up his mind right then that he had a lot to be thankful for: he has a wonderful wife and two beautiful little girls (as well as parents, a loving sister and brother-in-law a neice and nephew as well as all of the other family members and wonderful in-laws) who all would be right by his side. He ask what the next step was and hasn’t stopped since then.
We are so proud of Jason even with all that he has gone through he has kept his smile and a wonderful attitude. It has now been 19 months since the accident and there has not been a day to go by my husband or I have had someone come up and ask about Jason and say how he has touched their lives by his attitude. My heart breaks to see Jason have to struggle to do things that are so easy for others to do but then it shines to see what a wonderful person he is and to have accepted this awful tragedy and to continue to live life to the fullist.
