Pulmonary (Lung) Injuries

Pulmonary or lung injuries can be the result of a blunt or penetrating chest injury (gunshot or knife wounds, and automobile accidents). Injuries can range from a rib fracture or a contusion (lung tissue bruise) to a collapsed lung (pneumothorax). Pulmonary complications can also occur after a traumatic event and include: 

  • Anatomy and Physiology
  • Lung Contusions
  • Pneumothorax
  • Hemothorax
  • Aspiration Smoke Inhalation/Carbon Monoxide Exposure
  • Empyema
  • Pleural Effusion
  • Adult Respiratory Distress Syndrome
  • Respiratory Faliure
  • Pneumonia
  • Pulmonary Embolism
