Sentara Norfolk General Hospital

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital: Level I Trauma Center

Sentara Norfolk General Hospital is proud to be Hampton Roads’ only Level I Trauma Center, providing the highest level of trauma care to critically ill or injured patients across Eastern Virginia and northeast North Carolina. In 2022 alone, our expert team treated nearly 5,000 trauma patients.

As one of just six Level I centers in Virginia, we offer 24/7 access to fellowship-trained trauma and critical care surgeons, ensuring advanced, immediate care for even the most complex injuries.

In collaboration with Macon & Joan Brock Virginia Health Sciences at Old Dominion University (ODU) and the Nightingale Regional Air Ambulance, we work closely with EMS providers to rapidly transport patients during the crucial ‘golden hour’, improving outcomes through early intervention.

Our trauma services are fully verified by the Virginia Department of Health Office of Emergency Medical Services, meeting strict standards for comprehensive trauma care.

At Sentara, trauma care goes beyond the initial injury. We are committed to violence and injury prevention in the community and provide ongoing support for patients and families throughout the healing journey.
