Stony Brook Children’s Pediatric Trauma Center is the ACS-verified Level I Pediatric Trauma Center in Suffolk County. This is the highest-level trauma designation by the New York State Department of Health. Stony Brook Children’s Hospital is passionate about pediatric care, and our pediatric trauma department is no exception. We have highly specialized pediatric facilities, an entire team dedicated to pediatric trauma and a clinical care team supporting them through their journey. Our pediatric trauma surgeons provide highly specialized, around-the-clock care, with 24/7 access to expert consultation in neurosurgery, cardiothoracic surgery, orthopedic surgery, plastic surgery, and oral and maxillofacial surgery. As part of our commitment to family centered care across the continuum, we’re a proud Trauma Survivor Network partner so that we can offer our families, children and teens, emotional support beyond clinical care.

Ongoing The NextSteps program is a free 6-week self management course designed to recognize that YOU play the most important role in your recovery. based on the principles of self-management. It uses techniques that have been scientifically proven to increase one’s self confidence and sense of empowerment. TSN Family Support Group

The TSN Pediatric and Family Support Group provides a safe, supportive environment for pediatric patients and their families to connect, share experiences, and access valuable emotional and educational resources. 

Children and Family Traumatic Stress Intervention (CFTSI)

CFTSI is a brief (5-8 sessions), evidence-based treatment for children and their caregivers to help families better understand their reactions to what has happened, reduce the child’s trauma symptoms, and enhance caregiver support.  

Suffolk County Child Advocacy Center (CAC)

The mission of the Child Advocacy Center is to provide a neutral, child-focused environment where a coordinated response to child abuse allegations may be pursued in ways that support and protect children, non-offending parents, and other family members.

Smart Patients

Brain Injury Discussion Forum is an online support group for patients and caregivers dealing with traumatic brain injury. Members share help, advice and information about treatments, symptoms and side effects.

Children’s Burn Foundation

Children’s Burn Foundation provides survivors with the support, community and comprehensive care they need.  Facilitated by trained professionals, burn survivors are able to speak openly about their experiences and be completely understood by peers. 

Anxiety and Depression Association of America

The Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA) offers four free, anonymous, and safe peer-to-peer support communities designed to help individuals, families, and caregivers.

Child Mind Institute

The Child Mind Institute is dedicated to prevention and early intervention in all areas of child and adolescent mental health. While we cannot always avert traumatic events, we can offer educational programs and information so that parents and teachers know how to respond to stressors when they occur.

Safe Kids

Safe Kids works with strategic partners and an extensive network of more than 400 coalitions in the U.S. to reduce traffic injuries, drownings, sleep-related deaths, falls, burns, poisonings, and more.
