UMC is committed to caring for those affected by trauma and we serve as the trauma prevention community leaders. We collaborate with Texas and New Mexico trauma systems to coordinate the delivery of regional trauma care.
UMC is enrolled with the American Trauma Society (ATS) Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) program. The TSN coordinator aids in the trauma survivors empowerment to share their experience and inspire hope to others as part of the recovery process. Reinforcing the importance of their involvement will promote resiliency, healing and adaptation to a traumatic injury.
Traumatic injury and violence are recognized as two major public health concerns in the United States. While trauma medical care continues to advance, trauma survivors and their families are often faced with life-changing mental, emotional, physical and financial concerns.
One of our department’s goals is to educate and promote injury prevention activities. The hospital based TSN Coordinator strives to recruit and train trauma survivors and survivor’s family members who volunteer their time as Peer Visitors to continue support. The TSN Coordinator will also coordinate peer support services, such as Support Groups or Trauma Awareness events for survivors and their families during various stages of the recovery process
The TSN Coordinator within trauma services department strive to identify patients at risk for acute stress, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), anxiety and depression to provide support, information and community resources as needed.
Comprehensive care for trauma patients includes a commitment to return the patient to society with the maximum physical and psychological function possible consistent with his or her injuries.
