Atrium Health’s Carolinas Medical Center (22)

With a driving mission, “To improve Health, elevate Hope, and advance Healing – FOR ALL,” Atrium Health is advancing the standard of care for trauma patients and their loved ones.

Located at Atrium Health Carolinas Medical Center, the Trauma Survivors Network (TSN) is a community of patients and loved ones seeking to connect following a traumatic physical injury. TSN provides comprehensive supportive services throughout the recovery progress both, while a patient is in the hospital as well as following discharge from the hospital. We provide in-person and virtual services (some rules apply). Our services include emotional wellbeing & peer-to-peer support. Referrals and/or resources to counseling services may also be provided.

Please see below for more details about our TSN services and partnering community resources.

Our Services

Peer Visitation

TSN Peer Visitors are trauma survivors or family members of survivors who are specially trained to offer support and encouragement to new trauma patients and their families. TSN Peer Visitors are volunteers who know what it’s like to go through the lengthy recovery process after traumatic injury. They are trained to listen, share their personal survivor stories, and provide support. Peer Visitation is offered in person, over the phone, or through video chat.

TSN Support Groups

Trauma Survivors, caregivers, family and friends are invited to attend monthly virtual support group meetings. During these groups, you will meet other trauma survivors who understand the ups and downs of the recovery process, hear trauma survivors share their personal stories of strength and recovery after a traumatic injury, and learn and discuss ways of building personal strength and confidence after a life-changing injury. All virtual groups use one registration link to join. Each individual group will meet in an assigned breakout room after a brief welcome. Each month will feature a topic of interest to group members to guide discussion and education. Visit HERE for more information and to register for 2025 group meetings.

Mental Health and Substance Use Support

The Trauma Resilience and Recovery Program (TRRP) addresses the emotional health needs of patients after traumatic injury. After a screening to assess your emotional well-being, you may be offered a session with a member of the TSN team to help you better understand what to expect and common reactions after injury. With your permission, we may contact you one month after your hospital stay to check on your emotional recovery. Patients may also be offered substance use screening and brief intervention. We also provide screening, brief intervention, and referral to treatment for patients experiencing substance use. We use a comprehensive, integrated, public health approach to the delivery of early intervention and treatment services for persons with substance use disorders, as well as those who are at risk of developing these disorders. If needed we can help you arrange counseling and substance use services.
