The Ohio Attorney General’s Crime Victim Services Section administers the state’s Victims of Crime Compensation Program, providing financial assistance to victims of violent crimes for certain out-of-pocket expenses. 
Expenses such as:
– Medical bills
– Counseling
– Lost wages
– Funeral costs that result from violent criminal acts
The program is funded by criminal fines and not taxpayer dollars. 
Patient will log into website and create a portal hit ‘file a claim’ and complete required paperwork.

The Diversion Center is a first-of-its kind facility in Ohio, working in conjunction with law enforcement to help individuals who are exhibiting signs and symptoms of a mental illness and/or addiction. These individuals receive the help, care and linkage to community resources they need in a treatment environment rather than going to the County jail. The Center has also expanded eligibility beyond law enforcement referrals to include calls from friends, family members and individuals in need of and wanting care for a mental illness and/or substance use disorder. 

Diversion Center services include: 
– Beds for 50 individuals, staffed 24/7 by clinical and support professionals 
– Diversion beds for serious mental illness (SMI) and substance use disorders (SUD) while appropriate referrals are made 
– Withdrawal management services (detox) 
– Mental health and substance use assessments 
– Psychiatric evaluation and medication management 
– Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) 
– Individual and group counseling 
– Peer support services 
– Case management 
– Help enrolling in benefit programs such as Disability and Medicaid 
– Coordination and linking to community services after onsite care 

Project Penalty Awareness

The U.S. Pretrial Services and Probation Office in the Northern District of Ohio has launched a public service project aimed at educating individuals about federal drug statutes and penalties. Project Penalty Awareness is the Northern District of Ohio’s federal drug prevention program. Its purpose is to educate the public about federal drug trafficking offenses and penalties. The target audience includes juveniles that may be predisposed to engage in criminal activities. In the past, our district has partnered with numerous agencies including the Ohio Department of Youth Services and the Cleveland Municipal School District. The Akron, Toledo and Youngstown offices also make presentations throughout their service areas. In addition, the district continues to make presentations at local drug rehabilitation centers. With the success of the program, the district has expanded the program to incorporate firearm offenses and penalties and has recently added an interactive component for students. Presenters of this program hail not only from the U.S. Pretrial Services and Probation Office, but also include U.S. Magistrate Judges, U.S. District Judges, chambers staff, U.S. Clerk of Court employees and local attorneys.
