A traumatic injury can change a young person’s life in an instant. Recovery may involve months or years of physical healing, emotional adjustment, rehabilitation, and learning to navigate life in a new way.

The Pediatric Trauma Survivor Scholarship recognizes the resilience of young injury survivors and provides financial support as they pursue their next chapter.

Scholarship funds may be used to support college, vocational training, certification programs, or other educational and career goals. Through this scholarship, TSN celebrates the determination of young trauma survivors while helping make their goals for the future possible.

The Pediatric Trauma Survivor Scholarship is open to young people who:
🎓 Experienced a traumatic injury before the age of 18
🎓 Received care at a hospital or trauma center
🎓 Are pursing secondary education, vocational training, or a certification program

Applicants are invited to share their personal story and reflect on how their injury and recovery have influenced who they are today, their goals, and their vision for the future.

The next application cycle will open in 2027.

2026: James Washington

At just 16 years old, James’ life changed forever after being shot. His life was saved by the Trauma team at Cohen Children’s Medical Center, who supported him over months of surgeries and an even longer road to physical and emotional recovery.

Now 18, James is attending College of Staten Island pursing a nursing degree. Inspired by the doctors who gave him a second chance, he aspires to become a pediatric neurosurgeon. “I believe injury survivors must be included and heard in healthcare because we carry knowledge that cannot be taught in a classroom.”

Together, we can help survivors move forward!

Recovery doesn’t end when a survivor leaves the hospital. It is an ongoing journey of adapting, rebuilding, discovering new possibilities, and finding a path forward.

The Pediatric Trauma Survivor Scholarship is one way the Trauma Survivors Network says to young survivors: We see your strength. We believe in your future. And we are here to support you along the way.
