A research team at the Stanford School of Medicine is conducting an NIH-funded BRAIN Initiative study about a developing technology called Brain Computer Interface (BCI). We are recruiting patients who have experienced strokes and/or traumatic brain injuries. We are also hoping to talk to the caregivers of these patients. The goal of our study is to understand perspectives on the benefits, risks, and ethical challenges of BCI. You do not need to have any prior knowledge of BCI. Spanish- and English-speaking patients and caregivers are welcome to participate.
You are eligible to participate in this study if you:
- You have experienced a stroke and/or traumatic brain injury
- You experienced this injury within the last six months to seven years
OR - You are currently the caregiver of someone who has experienced a stroke and/or traumatic brain injury
If you are eligible and you want to participate in this study, you will be invited to:
- Participate in a 2-3 hour interview via video conferencing (i.e. Zoom)
- This interview can be broken into 2 shorter sessions if you need it
- You will watch videos about BCI and discuss your perspectives on the ethics about BCI and potential applications of BCI in stroke and brain injury patients
- Once completed, you will be given a $50 gift card for your time.
