Serving patients in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and the surrounding communities since 1926, Ascension St. John Medical Center is committed to providing compassionate, high-quality care to every patient entrusted to us. As Tulsa’s first verified Level I Trauma Center  by the American College of Surgeons , we are dedicated to delivering the highest level of trauma care and providing the best possible outcomes for the patients we serve.

ARE YOU A TRAUMATIC INJURY SURVIVOR?

Peer visitation connects trauma patients with trained volunteers who have experienced serious injury and recovery firsthand. These peer visitors provide real-world insight, answer questions, and offer encouragement from someone who’s “been there.”

Through peer support, patients can gain practical recovery tips, feel less alone, and build confidence moving forward.

We’re currently building our peer visitor program and are looking for trauma survivors to get involved—Please email us to learn more or apply.

Ongoing – The NextSteps program is a free 6-week self management course designed to recognize that YOU play the most important role in your recovery. based on the principles of self-management. It uses techniques that have been scientifically proven to increase one’s self confidence and sense of empowerment. Our certified neuro-exercise specialists use evidence-based methods, adaptive equipment, and personalized progression plans to help each client reach their highest potential. With DEFY, you will train in a positive, goal-driven environment, work with certified neuro-exercise specialists experienced in neurorecovery, access cutting-edge rehabilitation technology, build strength that supports both body and mind, full body workouts are completed out of the wheelchair or by removing the assistive device to maximize return and restore function.

Push Push Pray Foundation: This foundation is dedicated to raising awareness and using donations to enrich the quality of life for individuals with spinal cord injuries.

United Spinal Association: Our mission is to empower and advocate for people with spinal cord injuries/disorders and all wheelchair users to achieve their highest quality of life. We also provide online support groups and resources.

Model Systems Knowledge Translation Center: The MSKTC collaborates with Model System researchers to translate health information into easy to understand language and formats for people living with spinal cord injury (SCI) and those who support them. The center conducts knowledge translation research, provides knowledge translation support to Model System grantees, and develops and disseminates free research-based resources to help improve rehabilitation outcomes and quality of life for people living with SCI.

Resource Center for Brain and Spinal Cord Injury: SpinalCord.com is a resource for spinal cord injury survivors and their families. We offer information about the anatomy of a spinal cord injury, contact information for doctors and treatment centers, a directory of support groups across the country, podcasts on critical topics, a blog covering almost any topic you could imagine, and more.

BrainLine: BrainLine is a national multimedia project offering authoritative information and support to anyone whose life has been affected by brain injury or PTSD: people with brain injuries, their family and friends, and the professionals who work with them. BrainLine also provides military-specific information and resources on traumatic brain injury (TBI) and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to veterans, service members, and their families.

UAMS Institute for Digital Health & Innovation- Brain Injury Program: The UAMS Brain Injury Program is part of the Institute for Digital Health & Innovation. We are the lead program for brain injury in Arkansas and our services are free. We offer: community resources, telemedicine, support groups, quarterly online workshops, recovery groups, education for professionals, and a 24/7 nurse hotline for medical questions and physician consults (1-855-767-6983).

Tristesse Grief Center: The Tristesse Grief Center’s mission is to support grieving individuals and families through professional counseling services, educational programming, and community collaborations.

Moore Funeral Homes & Crematory- Grief & Healing: Provides grief counseling, support groups, and additional resources on grief and healing. Also has a family grief support program.

Grief Recovery Center- “Heart Mend”: “Heart Mend” is a nonprofit that offers one on one guidance, support groups, life coaching, spiritual direction, and education to adults who are helping children with loss.

Grief Ministry with the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa: The Diocese of Tulsa has a grief ministry, providing grief resources and holding monthly peer support groups.

CALM Center at Counseling and Recovery Services: The CALM Center is a safe and caring place for youth ages 10-17 to receive immediate support, assessment and stabilization for an emotional, behavioral or substance abuse crisis any time of day or night. Care is provided regardless of ability to pay, and a referral is not necessary.

Family & Children’s Services: We care for Tulsans through more than 70 comprehensive programs, supporting vulnerable children, strengthening families and offering hope to those battling mental illness, severe mental illness and addiction. We also work to divert individuals from the criminal legal system and provide 24/7 crisis care and stabilization, ensuring safety and support during life’s most challenging moments.
