Tacoma General Hospital

MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital has served the South Sound region for more than 140 years. Founded in 1882 as Fannie C. Paddock Memorial Hospital, seven years before Washington achieved statehood, Tacoma General has grown alongside the community to become a leading regional referral center for complex and specialized care.

The Tacoma General Hospital Trauma Program, established in 2001, has been a cornerstone of trauma care in the region for more than two decades. Today, Tacoma General is a state-designated Level II Adult Trauma Center, caring for injured patients across Pierce County and the surrounding region. The trauma program is supported by a multidisciplinary team dedicated to providing comprehensive trauma, emergency, and critical care services.

MultiCare Tacoma General’s trauma surgeons are double board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care, with trauma fellowship training. The emergency department is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week by board-certified emergency medicine physicians. Patients have immediate access to a broad range of specialty services, including:

Advanced Imaging

Cardiothoracic Surgery

Chest Wall Reconstruction & Rib Fixation

Facial/Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) Surgery

Interventional Radiology

Neurosurgery & Traumatic Brain Injury Care

Orthopedic Surgery, including complex pelvic fractures and extremity injuries

Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, with expertise in facial trauma

Spine Surgery, including complex spinal procedures and repairs

Vascular Surgery, including revascularization of compromised limbs and vascular bypass procedures

In addition to being a verified, state designated Level 2 Trauma Center, MultiCare Tacoma General is also a state-designated Level 1 Stroke Center and a DNV Certified Comprehensive Stroke Center. Tacoma General Hospital has also achieved accreditation from the SRC as a Center of Excellence in Robotic and Colorectal Surgery and is a designated Level I Cardiac Center offering advanced treatment for cardiac bypass and interventional cardiology with rapid, expert response.

At MultiCare Tacoma General Hospital, we remain committed to improving the health of the communities we serve by delivering exceptional patient care, advancing clinical excellence, and setting the standard for trauma, emergency, and specialty care throughout the region.
