Have you survived an accident and noticed changes to the things that happen in your sleep?
Perhaps you have been involved in a road traffic collision, a fall from height or an accident at work. If you have subsequently experienced vivid dream-like phenomena just as you are falling asleep or just as you are waking up, Dr. Ruth Parkes of the University of Central Lancashire (UK) would like to hear from, you for a research study exploring this topic in more detail.
Dr. Parkes herself survived a 20ft fall from height and was required to sleep completely flat and without moving for several months, to avoid further damage to her spine and prevent potential paralysis. Years later, Dr. Parkes experienced what are called hypnopompic hallucinations (lifelike sensations while about to wake up), believing that she had plates and glasses of food and drink balanced on her body, so she couldn’t move without making a mess.
She is interested in hearing from accident survivors who have their own unusual sleep events and how these impact upon you.
Unfortunately, you will not be able to take part if you don’t speak English or if you have a Traumatic Brain Injury which significantly affects your ability to understand or communicate verbally. This research has obtained ethical approval from The University of Central Lancashire’s HEALTH Ethics Review Panel, Ref: 01159. For more information about the project or if you are interested in taking part, please contact Dr. Parkes.
