Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center in Boise, Idaho is a Level II trauma center and is the most experienced and advanced trauma center in Idaho, eastern Oregon, and northern Nevada. Saint Alphonsus Health System has a long history of caring for the seriously ill and injured. Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is staffed by surgeons board-certified in general surgery and surgical critical care who have completed specialized fellowships focused on trauma, intensive care, and surgical rescue. This advanced training prepares the multidisciplinary trauma team to manage the full continuum of care – from initial resuscitation through recovery.
What is a Trauma Center?
A trauma center is a specialized part of a hospital that provides organized, around-the-clock care for adults and children with serious injuries.
At Saint Alphonsus, trauma care is provided by a team of specialists led by a trauma surgeon. The trauma surgeon works closely with emergency doctors, orthopedic surgeons, neurosurgeons, and other medical experts to quickly assess injuries and provide the best possible treatment.
How Is a Trauma Center Different from Other Hospitals?
A trauma center offers a complete system of care for seriously injured patients.
At Saint Alphonsus, this includes:

Saint Alphonsus is the only hospital in the region with a 24/7 Orthopedic Trauma Program staffed by fellowship-trained orthopedic trauma surgeons.

Level II Trauma Center Designation
Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center is verified by the American College of Surgeons and designated as a Level II Trauma Center through the Time Sensitive Emergency System. This designation confirms that we have the doctors, staff, equipment, and resources needed to treat patients with major traumatic injuries.

The State’s Only Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU
Our state-of-the-art Neuro, Surgical, Trauma ICU and Stepdown Unit is the first of its kind in the Treasure Valley. Adding 35 critical care beds with amenities that allow more flexibility for care providers and improved comfort for patients and their families – we’re providing critical care that keeps patients close to home, here in Idaho.

That’s why our team of neuro, surgical, and trauma specialists work together to provide enhanced care for the most complex neurologic cases. So patients don’t have to leave the state when time is critical.
Complex neurological conditions can be life-altering for you and your family. Helping you navigate the path ahead, our multi-specialty team of neurocritical care experts and staff provide treatment for a variety of conditions, including:
- Acute ischemic stroke
- Aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage
